Ekron was once located on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and was known as the biggest shipping point in the county. Today, Ekron still has a railroad passing through; but no depot. Ekron is a sixth class city with a mayor and city commission. There is a store, school, fire department, and churches in the area. The Ekron also operates the Ekron Water Supply Company. This entity generates its main revenue. The Ekron Post Office was established in 1899. The population in 2004 was 179.
