Come Play in Springfield Kentucky!
A wide range of public recreation facilities and events are available in Springfield, KY!  Two excellent parks, Idle Hour Park and Lincoln Homestead State Park, provide tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, basketball, volleyball, and shuffleboard courts. Lincoln Homestead boasts an 18-hole regulation golf course. Springfield’s city swimming pool is open from May through August and offers swim lessons for all ages.  Willisburg Lake is an attractive fishing and boating lake, located 10 miles north of Springfield

A wide range of public recreational facilities and events are available in Springfield. The city maintains two excellent parks, Idle Hour Park and Springfield Swimming Pool Park. You can also explore Springfield through self-guided walking and driving tours.
Idle Hour Park

Idle Hour Park features four tennis courts, two baseball diamonds, a softball and little league field, two t-ball fields, basketball, volleyball, croquet and shuffleboard courts. Also horseshoe pits, a paved walking-jogging trail, two playgrounds, two concessions stands, and several picnic areas with four shelters. The shelters are available on a first come first serve basis or reservations can be made by contacting the City of Springfield.

Lincoln Homestead Park   [back to top]

Lincoln Homestead State Park, five miles north of Springfield, is a 153-acre park on land settled by Abraham Lincoln's family. The actual building in which Nancy Hanks, mother of President Lincoln, lived during her courtship with Thomas Lincoln is preserved here as well as a replica of the 1782 cabin where Thomas Lincoln lived as a boy. The park also has a museum, gift shop, picnic area, playground, three fishing lakes, and an 18-hole championship golf course including a proshop.

Many events at St. Catharine College are open to the public. These include concerts, art exhibits, annual performances by the Actors Theatre of Louisville, various professional seminars, and the annual Hofstetter Peach with Justice Lecture.

Willisburg Lake   [back to top]

Willisburg Lake, an attractive fishing and boating lake of about 160 acres, is located 12 miles northeast of Springfield. Willisburg Lake not only provides the city water company with an abundant supply of raw water, but also offers sportsmen a haven among the gentle hills of the Willisburg area. Bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish are among the favorite catches of fishermen in Washington County and all these species can be found in the manmade lake. The lake offers a launching ramp, boat rentals, bait, tackle, and supplies sales. The lake is located on KY 555 near Willisburg and is easily accessible from the Martha Layne Collins/Bluegrass Parkway.
