WIRED (Employment and Training Dept)

Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) is a federally-funded initiative designed to integrate economic and workforce development activities by demonstrating the role of talent in the transformation of regional economies. This regional effort includes 26 counties - 19 in Kentucky and seven in Indiana. The region encompasses the Louisville and Elizabethtown metropolitan areas and includes portions of six workforce investment areas. Because of the central role infrastructure plays in tying a region and its workers together, the regional initiative was named Wired65, a reference to Interstate 65, which cuts through the heart of the region.

A first and foundational piece of the Wired65 work has been the development of the TIP Report: Wired65 Regional Competitiveness Strategy. It focuses on a regional approach to address challenges and opportunities - a stronger approach than just operating as individual cities or towns. The comprehensive report emphasizes the key factors to success:

A strong pool of TALENT to allow business to flourish,
An environment that supports INNOVATION and entrepreneurship, and
A quality of PLACE that draws people and companies to the area while meeting the needs of current residents.

Wired65 is investing grant funds in local programs that address the challenges and opportunities in the TIP Report. These efforts support increased educational attainment and strengthened industry sectors. For more information, go to www.wired65.org.
